The matrix comprises from about 1 to about 60% of a polar plasticizer, from about 6 to about 30% by weight polyvinylalcohol, from about 2 to about 30% by weight polyvinylpyrrolidone, and a pharmaceutically effective amount of propranolol to provide a sustained release of propranolol over a prolonged period.
